Motherhood & What It Means To Me

I recently participated in a teleconference with Ondina Lopez, mother of 2012 London Olympic hopefuls Steven and Diana Lopez. During the teleconference, we were able to ask Ondina questions about how she has been able to keep her family organized with being the first “Family of Taekwando”. And it got me to thinking about motherhood and what it means to me.

Having a child is not always easy so having an amazing mom to lead by example is what probably helps a lot of us get through those tough moments that we thought we would never make it through alive.

In thinking about motherhood,I always said, “I will never be like my parents.” But having had two great parents to look up to as role models, isn’t a bad thing in my case. It is actually a great thing, being a single mom, I get a lot of help from both of my parents.

My Mom

I am lucky enough to have a mom that supports me and encourages not only me but my son to be the best we can be. She will take time out of her busy schedule to let us know that she is there for us. I strive to be like my mom as a parent because she didn’t just have one child but four and all within 5 years.

I may not have liked a lot of things that my parents made me do, but looking back it was to make me a better person and mother to my son. Having these values that my parents instilled in me are being carried over to Chucky and eventually over to my grandchildren.

Children do not come with a handbook, but you were given the tools to be a good parent from your parents, just make sure you don’t miss the signs!
